Respite Care in Cambridge
Time to rest, without spending the whole time worrying.
Looking after someone is rewarding and relentless in equal measure. Respite care hands the routine to a trained carer for a few hours, a few days or a few weeks, so you can sleep properly, go away, recover from your own illness, or simply have an afternoon that belongs to you.

What Respite Care Means
Respite care is temporary support that takes over from a family carer. It happens in the person's own home, which means no unsettling move to an unfamiliar building and no upheaval to come back to.
The care itself is the same as any of our services. What is different is the purpose. Respite exists for the carer as much as the person being cared for, and there is nothing selfish about needing it. Carers who never stop tend to reach a point where they cannot continue at all, and that helps nobody.
When Families Use Respite
- A holiday, a wedding or a weekend away that has been postponed for years
- A family carer who is unwell, having surgery or needs a hospital appointment
- Exhaustion, broken sleep and the point where patience has run out
- A trial run, to see how home care works before committing
- Cover between a hospital discharge and longer term arrangements
- A regular weekly break that keeps everything else sustainable
Ways Respite Can Work
A regular weekly break
A few hours at the same time each week, so you can rely on it and plan around it.
Day cover
A full day or a series of days, covering meals, personal care, medication prompting where assessed and permitted, and company.
Overnight respite
Waking or sleeping night support, so you get an unbroken night's sleep.
Holiday cover
Continuous live in care for one week, two weeks or longer, with the same carer wherever possible.
Emergency respite
Cover arranged quickly when a carer becomes unwell or a situation changes without warning.
Convalescent support
Short term care after a hospital stay, while confidence and strength return.
Leaving With Confidence
The hardest part of respite is not the arrangement, it is trusting someone else with the details you have spent years learning. So we take the handover seriously.
Before your break starts we write down the routine as you actually run it: the order of the morning, the food that gets eaten and the food that does not, which chair, which programme, which words help and which do not. Where there is time we arrange an introductory visit while you are still there, so the carer is not a stranger on day one. You will have a number to call, and we will contact you only if you want us to.
How We Arrange Respite Care
- 1
Tell us the dates
Call us with the period you need covered, or the situation if it is urgent.

Free home assessment
We visit, meet everyone involved, and build the picture of the daily routine.
- 3
Your temporary care plan
Short, practical and written around your routine rather than a template.
- 4
Carer matching and introduction
We match on skills and personality, and introduce the carer beforehand wherever possible.
- 5
Cover, then a proper handover back
You get a clear account of how the period went when you return.
Why Families Choose Us for Respite
A real handover, not a form. We learn the routine as you run it, not as a checklist.
The same carer wherever possible. Continuity matters even for a short period.
Honest about availability. If we cannot cover your dates we will say so early, not the week before.
Carers from across Europe, Africa and Asia. We match on shared language and temperament where we can.
No pressure to continue. Respite can be a one off, and that is completely fine.
A route into ongoing care if you want it. The same local team, no starting again.
