Supported Living in Cambridge

Your home, your routine, your decisions. Support that fits around the life you want.

Supported living is for adults who want to live independently and need the right support to make that work. The tenancy is theirs, the choices are theirs, and our role is to help with the parts that are difficult while stepping back from the parts that are not.

What Supported Living Means

In supported living, the person holds their own tenancy and the support is entirely separate from the housing. That separation is the point. It means the home belongs to them, and if the support provider changes, the home does not.

The support itself is built around what the person wants to achieve rather than what they cannot do. Sometimes that is practical, such as cooking a meal or catching a bus. Sometimes it is about confidence, routine or having someone alongside while something unfamiliar is tried for the first time.

Who We Support

  • Adults with a learning disability living in their own home or moving towards it
  • Autistic adults who need predictable, well understood support
  • People with mental health needs who want support that flexes as things change
  • Adults with a physical disability who want practical help without losing control
  • Young adults moving on from children's services or the family home
  • People moving out of residential care or hospital into their own tenancy

What Support Can Cover

  • Daily living skills

Cooking, laundry, cleaning, shopping and looking after a home, done alongside the person rather than for them.

  • Money and paperwork

Budgeting, bills, benefits correspondence, appointments and letters, with the person making the decisions.

  • Health and wellbeing

Support to attend GP, dentist and specialist appointments, and prompting or assisting with medication where assessed and permitted.

  • Getting out and about

Travel training, public transport, shopping trips and community activities the person actually wants to do.

  • Work, learning and volunteering

Support to look for a job, get to college, attend a course or hold down a volunteering role.

  • Relationships and community

Keeping in touch with family and friends, joining groups, and building a life that is not only made of services.

Support That Steps Back

The measure of good supported living is not how much help someone receives. It is how much they end up not needing.

We plan with the person, in their words, and we record what they want to achieve rather than a list of tasks. Support workers are there to enable, prompt and stand alongside, not to take over because it is quicker. Where something is going well, we say so and we reduce the support around it. Where someone wants to try something and it carries a risk, we work through that properly with them rather than saying no by default.

How We Set Up Support

  1. 1

    Initial conversation

With the person, a family member, an advocate or a commissioning team, whoever is making the enquiry.

  2. 2

    Assessment

We meet the person in their own environment, understand what they want, and agree what good support would look like.

  3. 3

    Support plan and staffing proposal

Written with the person, setting out hours, goals and how support will be given.

  4. 4

    Matching and introductions

The person meets potential support workers and has a genuine say in who works with them.

  5. 5

    Reviews

Regular reviews with the person, their circle of support and the commissioner, adjusting hours as independence grows.

Working With Commissioners

We work with local authority teams, social workers, case managers and families arranging support through a personal budget or direct payment.

We can respond to referrals for adults across Cambridge and South Cambridgeshire, provide staffing proposals against an agreed package, and take part in reviews and multidisciplinary meetings. We are CQC regulated, and we will be straight about whether we can meet a person's needs safely rather than accepting a referral we cannot staff properly.
